DIVING IN VIETNAM

Vietnam has not traditionally been a major diving destination, but has developed a lot on this front in recent years. In Vietnam, the maximum depth will typically be around 25 meters and therefore offers opportunities for diving regardless of your expertise level.

In Vietnam you will find many exciting diving areas where you can explore caves, see corals and explore macro diving. Due to the warm climate, you can dive in Vietnam all year round in relatively thin diving suits of around 3mm.

Madonna Rock

Madonna Rock is a well-known site for many divers as it offers a combination of both soft and hard corals as well as fantastic caves to explore. Madonna Rock offers diving for everyone regardless of level and is a true “adventure playground”. Madonna Rock is located on the island of Hòn Mun, which is close to Nha Trang, which is generally known as the place to dive in Vietnam.

Nha Trang

Nha Trang is one of the most well-known divers’ paradises in Vietnam and has created some fantastic caves among the many islands. The most popular place to dive at Nha Trang is Moray Beach where all types of diving lessons are offered, which makes the place suitable for everyone regardless of level and experience. The peak season for diving in Nha Trang is from June to the end of August, from October to January there is the rainy season which makes diving less popular, sometimes there are also typhoons during that period.

Hoi An

Hoi An is another popular diving destination in Vietnam, where with a 40-minute sailing from the city you can reach Cham Island, which is known as the best place for diving in the Hoi An area. At Hoi and you will find a wide range of exciting and exotic animals such as barracudas, clownfish, seahorses, dragonfish and many more. Something that makes Hoi An special as a diving destination is their “Underwater Cleaning Program”, where there is a great focus on preserving biodiversity and protecting underwater life in the area.

Phu Quoc

If you want a more peaceful area to dive in, you can look towards Phu Quoc island where tourism is developing and therefore very unspoiled. The best season to dive at Phu Quoc is from November to January and therefore has a different season than Nha Trang and Hoi An. So regardless of when you visit Vietnam, there are areas where you can dive. During the period when there is a high season for diving in Nha Trang and Hoi An, there is a rainy season in the Phu Quoc area and thereby the season determines when to dive in the different places. South Island is known as one of the best places among experienced divers, and is one of the few places in the world where you can experience the bamboo shark.

Although Vietnam may not be known as the biggest diver’s paradise, it hides many gems where you can satisfy your diving needs.
